WW 27th February 2013
Having driven 800+ miles from the Limousin through ice and snow the last
thing you expect is an email saying our leader (the vintner) is
working, his cohort are working and off games respectively, GPS man is
in Canada, the bloggers neighbour is not playing, and there are of
course troops playing in Scotland. WELL I thought someone else might
turn up but it was not to be. So I returned home to the comfort of
central heating.

King’s, Swell, Ingra and Crip
Round we went
Lickety spit.
Mud and streams, circles and rows
As Wednesday Walkers
We did all
those.
Strange growths from mud arose
What? Vegetable? Animal?
Do you suppose?
WW 20th February 2013
Was it the windiest ever?
Who knows
But, it was jolly windy
Very windy at Frank's
Even windy round the back of Great Nodden
And really windy along the Rattlebrook track
Great Links Tor was windy
And even Arms Tor was windy
Those who went to Brat
Found it extremely windy
Then down to the windy stepping stones
Across the windy fields
Back to Frank's in the wind
A few cooling pints
And a windy drive home

So there you have it, a perfect Dartmoor evening. What more could anyone want. Out into the mist finding the track down to Older Bridge. And on scouting about for a cross, somewhere. Down and across Newleycombe then up to Down. Across and over all the walls to Combeshead for a drink. then up towards Eylesbarrow before heading down the boundary stones to Nun's Cross and back on the puddly track. To the PoF which was warm and welcoming.
Proper Dartmoor, proper weather, proper good.

I am sure I have read it somewhere 'You really do have to be there ...', well this was the walk where you really did. Not the most promising of forecasts but not too bad at Meldon. Off we set, well we were we once we had all got together. Exploring the quarry where allegedly axinite and garnets could be found. Then on and up into the rain. The tors shrouded in cloud. Then through the mist some daft person on West Mill. What sort of person goes out in this weather. So onwards towards Yes Tor when said person and companion catch up and it is Norman! How nice, so together up the lovely windy tor and a cuppa in the horsey hut. Of course on into the wind to High Wilhays before heading down to the cars. Meeting up in the pub we discover that said companion is a real Grand Master, not the silly sort who meet on the second Wednesday of the month, but, yes a real Grand Master. How amazing. So there you go, you really do have to be there.

12. And lo, so, verily, as it is written here, they did follow him, out into the wilderness, and the wind did blow mightily cold, and they trod where he trod and went where he became and they did not, and they were dread with cold, and onward, as he directed.
13. Out to the tor of the Kings, praise be, where they were goaded and tolded, onward to the place from whence stone has been hewn, where a warming drink was imbibed.
14. From there they saw a great light and thence they set off although some did tarry and these tarriers were admonished, and although admonished they tarried yet more, and back from whence they had come.
15. And on to that place, where he being of the parish of Sheepstor, issued a decree, that all should be tasked, those that are and those that once were, and all must gather at the appointed time and in the appointed place.
16. And so it will be, when the day is accomplished and must be or his wrath will be upon them and they shall surely suffer.
