TWW 13th October 2026

Don't you just love a walk where you know where you are.......but not quite !
Doesn't work in the mist and fog though.
Fortunately it was a lovely day, if a little windy to set off from Combestone tor in the direction of Horns cross, a place where everyone and all animals meet, judging by the state of the ground that surrounds it.
Carrying on towards Sandy Way, there was rather a nice gully that looked inviting so we followed that. Turns out that was part of the West Allerbrook river, dry though marshy in places. This was an  industrial area where a lot of tin stream working took place with all the usual buildings associated with it.
A great area to explore in depth if you have the patience.
Our lunch was taken was taken on a bank overlooking Venford and surrounding moors and tors, maybe the site of a probable mill.

Just beautiful !

Winding our way down to the road  and back over the dam,  and the path that leads through White Wood, very steeply leading down to the River Dart.  It's also the route of the pipe track carrying water from Swincombe to Paignton.
Walking past several large colonies of Fly Agaric, past their best but none the less impressive.
Down to the pretty clapper with no name and upwards, forever upwards at last to reach the cars at Combestone Tor.
Lunch at Two Bridges, in the dining room but no tablecloths, must be feeling the cost of living.
Food was very nice , though the waiting time not so nice.
All very welcoming though.

B renda.

You really do have to be there ...
