WW 31st May 2017
And appropriately the May blossom was in full bloom. From Norsworthy past the wonderful Flags and Ragged Robin up the lane to Kingsett. Where the beech is in full leaf. Onward to Roundepark, through all the hut circles to drop down Raddick Lane to Keaglesborough Mine and the wheel pits. Time to head along to the potato cave and then back for a cuppa at Lether Tor Bridge. Where the midges were gently trying to assert themselves. To the farm and cist and back. To a totally empty Royal Oak where, we were reliably informed, there has been something of a schism with the locals.
TWW 30th May 2017
A very nice change in the weather; not too hot, not too sunny with the promise of a shower - very nice for a good walk. Out from Statt's Bridge and along the track to California. Straight out to the forest boundary to pick up the track. Round and down and up and round and along past the Cube Stone to the clapper and Teignhead Farm. A nice place for a cuppa. Either up to Whitehorse or round by the wonderful Manga Farm, Rails and Rock. Whatever, quite a steep and long pull to the ridge to admire the cist. Along for lunch as the rain tried but made no impression. Qintin's Man and Sittaford then a diversion to the recently discovered stone circle. A fantastic place as the stones emerged from the gloopy ground. Back along to Grey Wethers and finding faint tracks to White Hill. By the wall and over the corn ditch back to the cars.
Well worth taking a picnic!
WW 24th May 2017
Not a cloud in the sky on a very warm evening.
A most beauteous café racer in the car park to admire.
Then out and along with the sun, sun, sun high in the sky.
Through the gerts adorned with rowans.
And on the tops the May blossom bloomed.
Across Sandy Way to Mardle Head.
Into the sun to the Ryder's trig point.
A most comfortable place for a cuppa.
Down and back in the light.
To head for the now reliable Forest Inn.
Which was jolly busy.
TWW 23rd May 2017
Suitably sombre weather.
Out from Belstone.
Rounding the corner.
To explore the tops of the ridge.
On to Winter.
For a cuppa.
Cullever Steps called.
To Halstock and Blackertor Studs.
To admire all the little horses.
Down past the wonderful bluebells.
(How well they have lasted this year.)
Across Chapel Ford and steeply up.
By West Cleave and the Dartmoor Way.
To the The Tors.
For relatively swift service.
WW 17th May 2017
Such a lovely evening for a jolly nice adventure.
Out from Whiteworks as the rain disappeared.
And over the mire.
Following the white stick.
Round and up to Goldsmith's.
And on to take a cuppa break at Fox Tor.
As the sun gently started to set.
Over the wonderful gert.
Up to Mount Misery.
With a rainbow shard.
To guide the way.
Down the long wall.
To the raging Swincombe.
Where the island crossing.
Provided plenty of entertainment.
Splodgily back to the cars.
And back to the Plume.
For some nice beer.
TWW 16th May 2017
Phew, now that's a lot, lot better, back to some proper, decent Dartmoor weather. And where better to set off from than Princetown? Out along and across the road to wend our way to Hart Tor. Down and across and up to Cramber for a cuppa in the lee. Over to the trig point (does anyone remember just how famous that trig point is?) and along to Drivage. A lot of work has taken place on the cycle track which we crossed to go to Peat Cot which is looking proper smart. Round the back way, over and in the mires to Bachelor's, the tug-o-war training rig and the level crossing gate. To the Plume with speedy and delicious service.
WW 10th May 2017
Most of the team had gone to play in Scotland.
Did anyone go to Pork Hill?
Who knows?

TWW 9th May 2017
The annual bluebell walk from Meavy. Down over the stepping stones past Yeo Farm and up into the woods for usual outstanding display. On through the fields past the lambs and on to Sheepstor. Into the church then up to the top of Sheeps Tor. Terry took most to the Pixies House. Then to the top of Sheeps Tor for the coffee break. Down to follow the path around the edge of the reservoir, over the dam and down again to the leat. Back to the Royal Oak for lunch.
WW 3rd May 2017
Welcomed by the calls of
curlew, woodpecker and cuckoo
it did not look
over promising
but to see, you have to go
from Saddle Tor by Emsworthy
no sign of the owls
using their boxes
and round the bog
to admire the beautiful
bog violets and
lousewort
to the new clapper bridge
to the Lawn
and there they were
in all their glory
wonderful bluebells
gleaming
gently up and on
to Greator
for the mandatory
ascent and cuppa
down the track
steeply up
in the dimpsy
with the evening chorus
by Haytor
and round
the New Old Inn
was well closed
but the Rugglestone
welcoming as ever.

TWW 2nd May 2017
They might be Common but it is not often that we get such a nice sighting of one. Must have been the cool breeze that slowed it down.
Out from High Down and round underneath Great Nodden to admire the superb new work of art. Following the Lyd through all the old workings to the Rattlebrook Track. Onward to the memorial where more debris seems to be coming to the surface. Lovely and squelchy, thanks to that lovely rain, over to Gren. The old trackway took us up to Hunt to admire the gently rocking logan stone. Bleak House could be seen and made a perfect place to stop for lunch. And back over Brat as the sun made its way out.
