WW 29th March 2018

Iridium 70
The International Space Station
Moon nearly full
A light evening
Great views
Out from by Delaware
To take the somewhat muddy trail
Into Sheraleers Wood
At first sight
Nothing special
Looking more closely
Truly fantastic trees
Towering above us
On through Newpark Wood
Where the rhodedendrons
Are taking a bashing
By Quick Bridge
And up
To gaze at the satellite
And out
To the open moor
To enjoy the ISS
On to Penn Beacon
Plymouth full of twinkly lights
Down the boundary works
To West Rook Gate
Where the road
Is being slowly absorbed
Back to the Down
On to Cornwood
To the comfy sofas
In the Inn

TWW 27th March 2018

A significant walk led by the significant person. From Frank's on a morning cooler than likely. To pop down to Bridestowe Station and follow the Granite Way. Out and along past lots of wonderful Elf Cups. To admire the conundrum of the signs - Millennium code discs so they say. Over Lake to find sanctuary in the lovely Sourton Church as the rain drifted by. Refreshed, up and round the tor to follow the old trackways back to the Fox and Hounds as the rain eased and disappeared. Where a fine table had been set for us to enjoy our lunch.

WW 21st March 2018

Well
So this is Spring
Always welcome
Out from the quarry
To head up White
Where the new strobe was strobing
On a pleasant cool evening
Down, down, down and down some more
To Wapsworthy
Finding some places for a squeak
Along the road to Cudlipptown
Up and over Broadmoor Brook
By Twyste and back
On to a very busy Peter Tavy Inn
Quiz night don't you know

TWW 20th March 2018

The Winter that keeps on giving ...
After yet another brilliant snowy weekend out from The Walkhampton Inn to find some. Very soon lots of lovely drifts and the wonderful snowy squeak. Up through the fields to the church and along and out. To follow beneath the railway to Routrundle where the drifts were up to the tops of the walls to make a fine seat for a cuppa. To the amazing Pound with the 25ft. hut in the centre. Popping out on the railway and then uppety up to Leeden with blue skies and views far and wide. To follow the boundary work and find the stone row and the well drifted lane to Gypsy Rock. Welltown was well drifted in as we made our way back to the Inn for lunch with old friends.

WW 14th March 2018

Well as the scribe would have said, “It’s  proper Dartmoor weather”. Having battled our way through the rain and lakes where there should have been roads we set off up the Raddick Road “River” for the moor!
Out via Crazywell Pool to Cramber Tor and then back to the leat to descend the waterfall for a quick tea break, we then followed the leat which had burst its banks in many places. Down to Lether Tor Bridge where the river was roaring under the bridge and back to the cars. After a short discussion The Royal Oak was agreed as our next stop. We arrived having driven down the river into the village with water rushing past the front door where all was quiet, the “Morris” were there but no music! We were advised that the Meavy road was flooded so the return home required another trip through Dousland.

TWW 13th March 2018

A lizard, a butterfly, frogspawn, skylarks and sun, sun, sun. To head out from the Hairy Hand, through the woods where lots of trees have fallen. On to the refurbished Lichway, and very nice too. Over to Powdermills to explore the buildings and chimneys. And up to the lee of the wall for a nice cuppa. Onward, to traverse Longaford, of course, and then down round and back up to Higher White with views as far as could be seen. Over the rather rickety stile - duly notified and down to find a gate and take the old way back to the cars. On to a busy Two Bridges for very posh, prompt service.

WW 7th March 2018

It had to be done, going on a snow hunt, and we succeeded. Out from Lowery Cross as the rain came down. To explore the lanes that were blocked, blocked, blocked less than a week ago. Down to follow the bells but the diggers had been through. So, out and along by Gypsy Rock where the drifts remained and they were really deep. Round to the railway to pop out on the moor. Up to the Dew Pond where no ice remained. Round what is left of the forest to Stenlake for a cuppa. And then, as always on a Wednesday evening, the stars popped out. For us to make our way by the leat back to the cars and on to the reliable Rock.

TWW 6th March 2018

Now there's a very nice change. All warm and sunny with the snow rapidly retreating. Out from Drake's Cafe and through the tunnel. To Gem Bridge to play on the magnificent swing. Up and across Skew Bridge to head out over the Down. Down, down to Double Waters for a nice cuppa. Lots of birds about but few signs of Spring. Along the Tavy by the adits before heading up onto West Down. To make our way to the strange square chimney base by Raven Rock. And back along by the wedding venue where a nice, new road is being put in and up, through the tunnel, to the cafe. Where the drivers got their parking dues refunded.

You really do have to be there ...
