It was Tee Shirt weather at last. What a wonderful evening to head out to Merrivale.
Down to the beautiful track starting at Hillside, lovely views over the Walkham to Feather and Heckwood, everywhere fresh shades of green.
Past Longash, sad to see the old farm being cleared ready for sale. This was a busy farming valley in the past with clues of old farmsteads everywhere. Heading up through the Whistman like Oak woods to explore the scattered moss covered rocks of lower Hucken Tor and over the stile to Hucken proper. Lots of mining relics here.
Not allowed drinks stop yet! On up over the railway line to Kings to catch the sunset and what a spectacular one it was. You really have to be there. A quick chat with two chaps from Dawlish (raining there apparently) camping out. Then down over the stream and boggy bits to find the Long Stone and the Stone Circle still with remnants of May Day celebrations.
Then back to the once again open Dartmoor Inn. A pleasant pint, not beer you understand.
